The statistics are consistent and the trend is growing: the rich aren’t just getting richer but poorer Americans live substantially fewer years  — for a variety of reasons.

Despite the many advances in medicine and education since the 1970’s, the difference in lifespan after age 50 between our wealthiest and poorest has more than doubled since then.
